The cover of Mavis Staples' 1969 self-titled album was a statement to the world. Her confidence and natural beauty announced her as a star just as much as the gold star on her forehead. This is my tribute to her, Mavis the Star.

Handburned by pyrography artist Dirk Lewis on solid basswood and protected with a hard wax/oil finish to look great for years. Metallic gold acrylic paint used to highlight the star and earrings.
